O n April 25, IIC hosted its first benefit ever at Great Scott, a nightclub in Allston, and introduced a new crowd to IIC. The evening was a huge success, bringing in new faces and new support for our immigration services. Along with dancing to the tunes spun by DJ Drifski, guests snatched up raffle tickets to win prizes ranging from romantic dinners and hotel stays to sports memorabilia--including a basketball autographed by the Celtics. Special thanks must go out to Emma Ratliff, our stellar volunteer who organized the event.
Carrie Burke, IIC Lead Organizer, spoke to the crowd about the new Welcoming Massachusetts initiative and inspired many people to sign the pledge. Along with raising money and awareness, we also found many new volunteers for the organization. Mayor Thomas Menino couldn't help noting this banner day for IIC, as he declared April 25, 2008 Irish Immigration Center Day in the City of Boston. Not too bad for a day's work here at IIC!
